Events and fundraisers

Across the year we give students the opportunity to take part in wild and exciting happenings including
nocturnal star-lit ramblings in the Peak District, legendary hitch-hikes across Europe, and sleep-outs
on the concourse.
We also run fundraising appeals throughout the year, such as the Give As You Rent appeal and
Pending Coffee. Continue reading for more info.

Christmas Jumper Appeal

Inspired by National Christmas Jumper Day, we’re taking the season of giving one step further this year and running a Christmas Jumper Appeal from 1st December-25th December 2020. The appeal will be on behalf of HARC (Homeless and Rootless at Christmas) and we’re asking staff and students alike to get involved by following these three simple steps:

1. Dig out your most festive knitwear or accessorise with some tinsel and Christmas lights!
2. Spread cheer by wearing your festive creation out and about or online
3. Donate £2 here:

We’ve put together some Christmas jumper themed fundraising ideas for students and staff who are looking to maximise the money they raise:

– Mute button penalty – do you have a weekly staff meeting over Google Hangouts? Or a weekly society get together over Zoom? Hold a virtual meeting during which, every time someone talks on mute, they have to donate to Christmas Jumper Day.

   – Festive Fitness – This one is particularly good for sports clubs, but is open to all! Ask your family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you to run/walk/cycle/skip 5/10/15/20k whilst wearing a Christmas jumper.

– Christmas Jumper Appeal Quiz/Games Night/Film Night

– Online Charity Christmas Party – Gather your best festive attire, your favourite Christmas songs, some mince pies and mulled wine and host a virtual Christmas party with attendees asked to donate £2.

– 12 Days of Christmas (Jumpers) – Ask your family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you to wear your Christmas jumper for 12 days in a row.

Spiderwalk is a fun 13-mile night hike through the peaks, with free refreshments at the half-way point.

Spiderwalk 2019 is now over and raised a fantastic £9000! We hope everyone had a great night and enjoyed the walk!

Bummit is a charity hitchhike organised by a commitee on its own. To check out Bummit, visit their website!
