What is RAG?

RAG stands for Raising and Giving. Sheffield RAG started out in 1920 as ‘Hospital Saturday’ where medical students raised funds for local hospitals.

At present, we raise money and also help students raise money from students in the University of Sheffield for charities around Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

Sheffield RAG is a working committee of students at Sheffield Students’ Union that organizes loads of fundraising events over the academic year. All fundraising is completely student-led, this means that the committee, and student groups they work with, choose exactly which events they want to run, and the charities that benefit. Supported by a full time staff member, they aim to raise as much money as possible, and have a lot of fun in the process!

£ 50000 +
Raised in the Year 2017-18

We raise money primarily through putting on a whole academic year of exciting fundraising events; everything from bake sales to bungee jumps.

Some of our main events are (list is non-exhaustive)

  • Spiderwalk – a 13 mile night hike through the peaks
  • Bummit – A charity hitchhike from Sheffield to a country in Central Europe

Get involved!

You can help us out by becoming RAG Reps Volunteer and help organise events. Volunteer for 10 hours with RAG Reps and it will be recorded on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR)

If you’d like to go beyond, you can become a member of our lovely committee by attending our Election meetings at our AGMs! (Usually in March). We usually post this on our Facebook page, so follow us on social media by following the links on the top!

Our Charities

We love the community that we become a part of as students, so we aim to donate 85% of our annual total to local charities in South Yorkshire and the North Derbyshire area. We like to make a difference to smaller charities who cannot afford to have large-scale fundraising programmes.

Raise funds with us!

If you are a student at the uni and you’d like to know how to fundraise with our help, check this out.
